Handicap betting is made to give one team or the other an advantage or disadvantage. This type of bet adds more spiciness to matchups.
This means that if you’re confident with the team you’re backing, you can add a disadvantage to them in exchange for higher odds.
This can also mean that if you feel like backing one team but are not too confident, you can add a few points to their advantage.
So how does it work? Let's see a practical example:
Gen.G and Zeta Division played a match that had a scoreline of
GenG [13:11] Zeta Division
While GenG wins this matchup, players who gave GenG a -2.5 handicap lost their bets since the choice turns the final score into [GenG 10.5:11 Zeta Division].
On the other hand, those who gave Zeta Division an advantage of +2.5 and more won their bets since the choice turns the final score into [GenG 13:13.5 Zeta Division].
Handicap betting comes in many forms. For esports, markets can refer to the total score on a map or total map kills, for example. For traditional sports, markets can be about the first-half score or the score of the entire game.
